Position: Sr. Systems Administrator
Location: Chicago,IL
Duration:4-6 Months
Job Description:
* Installation, configuration and maintenance of the Linux operating system on a large computer cluster.
* Installation, configuration and maintenance of a software application stack, both generic and proprietary.
* Monitoring performance of the cluster and implementing pro-active measures to provide high availability of services.
* Handling resolution of incidents and support requests in a timely manner, both independently and as part of a team.
* Developing, installation, and configuration of custom scripts and other tools for continuous software deployment, recovery, monitoring, and reporting.
* Coordinating activities of system administrator on off-shore teams.
* Documenting shift work activities, incidents, and configuration changes.
Qualifications:
* Bachelors' degree in Computer Science or a related field.
* 7 years of hands-on experience in installation, configuration, management, and troubleshooting of the Linux operating system.
* 5 years of experience in operation of a large scalable Linux/Unix environment.
* 2 years of experience in practical shell scripting.
* Excellent communication skills.
* Excellent problem solving skills; ability to research problems independently.
* Ability to multitask and manage time effectively.
* Working experience with:
* RedHat Enterprise Linux or CentOS Linux
* Scripting languages (bash, ksh, sed, awk, Perl, Python)
* Cluster configuration management tools (Puppet, Chef, cfengine, Augeas)
* Java Virtual Machine configuration and performance tuning.
* JBoss, Tomcat, or Jetty configuration and performance tuning
* Experience with the following technologies is a plus:
* Cloud Computing (IaaS, OpenStack, AWS)
* Administration of Hadoop (HDFS, MapReduce, HBase).
* Virtual Appliances (VMBuilder, KIWI)
* Containers/Virtualization (LXC, AMI, Xen, KVM, libvirt)
* Orchestration (MCollective, Juju)
* Parallel/Batch Execution (MCollective)
* Concepts of Service-Oriented Architecture
* RESTful web services
Additional Skills
- Perform system monitoring and performance tuning to meet required SLA and performance targets.
- Write scripts to automate application deployments and configurations.
- Experience in using and setting up virtualized environments running on VMware.
- JMS implementations such as JBoss Messaging Service and Apache Qpid.
- Familiarity with Apache Hadoop, HDFS, HBase, Solr and Lucene is a big plus.
