POSITION SUMMARY:
Our client is looking for an experienced System Administrator to join their dynamic team building large-scale SOA based systems. Candidates who have a deep understanding and hands-on experience configuring, troubleshooting performance tuning large server environments and willing to administer a large server farm that uses different open source technologies will be considered for this position. This is a hands-on position combining Linux system administration and Java/J2EE application and open source technologies administration.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Install and configure Red Hat Enterprise 5 and Solaris 10 in a 200+ server farm.
- Work with Information Systems group in providing deployment diagrams and help setting up and configuring the systems
- Troubleshoot and resolve reported system problems.
- Perform system monitoring and performance tuning to meet required SLA and performance targets.
- Assist system and application architects during capacity planning activities.
- Document and explain implemented processes and configurations.
- Support development, testing, and operations teams during new system deployments.
- Evaluate and propose new tools and technologies to meet the needs of the organization.
- Work with network and system engineers to define optimum network configurations.
- Write scripts to automate application deployments and configurations.
- Provide weekly status reports to project managers describing accomplishments.
- Follow department quality assurance guidelines and processes.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- 5+ years of experience administering Unix/Linux based systems. RHCE certification is a plus.
- Strong experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.4 and Solaris 10 is a plus.
- Strong experience in building and configuring traffic heavy TCP/IP networks.
- Experience in installing and configuring JBoss Application Server and Tomcat.
- Experience in installing and tuning Java Virtual Machines for high traffic web sites.
- Experience in using and setting up virtualized environments running on VMware.
- Experience in defining firewall and load balancing rules and configurations.
- Proven track record of administering large scale and high performance Internet applications.
- Ability to learn, apply and explain new tools and technologies quickly.
- Strong experience in performance tuning highly concurrent Java applications running on Linux and x86.
- Familiarity with popular JMS implementations such as JBoss Messaging Service and Apache Qpid.
- Working knowledge of Oracle Service Bus or Open Source Mule ESB is a big plus.
- Familiarity with Apache Hadoop, HDFS, HBase, Solr and Lucene is a big plus.
- Familiarity with Oracle 10g/11g and PostgreSQL databases.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Visio and UML modeling tools.
- Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
- Creative, problem-solving approach with developed multi-tasking ability.
- Ability to effectively function in a fast-paced and constantly changing environment.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
- Unix Administrator: 4 - 6 Years
